Obesity is an increasingly primary health concern and one of the leading causes of declining quality of life . The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the mulberry leaves (ML) on obesity in experimental rats. Sixty adult males albino rats, which were divided into (6) groups each group (10) rats. Group (1): normal control, Group (2): positive control group , Group (3): a healthy group fed on the basal diet plus 5% mulberry leaves powder , Group (4): a healthy group fed on basal diet and 10 % mulberry leaves powder, Group (5): rats induced obesity fed on basal diet and 5% mulberry leaves powder , Group (6): rats induced obesity fed on basal diet and 10 % mulberry leaves powder .The results showed that mulberry leaves contain moisture , ash ,protein ,fat ,and total carbohydrates4.64%,21.76%,13.45%,14.5%,14.56%and31.09%;respectively. Moreover, mulberry leaves 12 phenolic compounds ; the results releaved a significant decreases in serum cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose and LDL-C and an increased in serum HDL-C in rats induced obesity and treated with 5% and 10% mulberry leaves. In addition , a significant decreased serum ALT, AST, ALP, GGT and LDH, activities at (p≤0.05), also, there was a significant reduced serum creatinine, urea and in uric acid levels, when compared with group(4), So this study recommended to use mulberry leaves in diets for it is many benefits.
